A downloadable game for Windows

A game made in a week as a submission for the inaugural Technically a Game Jam 2022! A game jam for the Technically Art Discord Community hosted by Harry Alisavakis.

Theme: Like X but Y

Our Take: "Like Cooking Mama but The Exorcist!"

You are the Cook-xorcist, a member of a long forgotten order of exorcists dedicated to the eradication of demons through the use of soulful cooking.

Having received a desperate plea from a concerned neighbour, you have journeyed to Apartment 669 of the Seven Circles residential housing block, and upon arrival have found it lousy with demons.

Grab your cauldron, prepare your ingredients, and get ready for a fight, because these demons don't want to leave, and they'll do everything in their power to keep a hold of their victim.

Not really my type of game so I have trouble judging how well the gameplay elements work, but it definitely has a great atmosphere and the use of the x but y theme is fantastic. I could see it making a full game with such good ideas.

Absolutely loved the game, it has the perfect feel of Cooking Mama and Horror. Especially the possessions puke, how much came out of him during my gameplay. You really managed to capture the feel of Cooking Mama, only with added projectiles to really amp up the stress.

This game was a challenge and it really ramped up as you got through the stages. It felt very rewarding when I was finally able to get through the last level.

I did find a few bugs while playing, the third right page of the book was not visible, I was able to see if turning the page so was not much of a bother. During my first run I died on the third Exorcism, and the game sort of started back where I was, but I had to complete the other two exorcisms again to complete the game. Also some of the cutting motion seemed inaccurate only noticed this while editing.

None of the bugs hampered the fun of the game, and I absolutely loved playing through it. I wish more people would notice how good it is.

Really great job on the game!

Thank you so much for playing! We're pleased you had fun & really enjoyed watching your brilliant playthrough vid! We are working to iron-out the bugs - we pushed a new version to fix the chopping accuracy and we have updates coming soon to address the book, tweak gameplay & other improvements.

Well done on persevering through to a full exorcism! We really appreciate your kind words

Thanks for taking care of the cook book issue! I really enjoyed the game once I got the hang of it. Though, it does seem like the chopping minigame could use some tweaking. If you watch my playthrough, there are a few times when I pretty much hit the timing perfectly and it registered as a fail.

And just an idea for the future if this is something you plan to build upon, it'd be cool if every time you performed a successful exorcism you gathered up your cart and moved to another room in the building. Changing the scenery might help add some variation. Giving each demon a bit of personality might be fun, too. Have them mock you verbally, etc. Maybe even the occasional jump scare would be fun.

In any event, great job with the unique idea and I'll be keeping an eye out for whatever you come up with next!

Here's my no-commentary playthrough:

Wow thanks very much for recording a playthrough we're grateful for an insight into how people play and we're glad you had fun! We're pushing a fix for the chopping accuracy and other general improvements soon!

We actually brainstormed exactly that idea about moving to other rooms with other settings and unique demons - you read our minds. Definitely something we'd love to explore if we did a major update, great suggestions.

Your game seems really cool, but it's currently impossible for me to proceed. Each time I turn the page, the right side of the recipe is covered up as is shown in the picture. I tried restarting and reinstalling, same result. Please let me know if you're able to get this fixed because I'd love to play through it!

Thanks so much for playing and for letting us know. We've pushed a v1.0.1 update so hopefully the issue is resolved. Thanks again!
